BEHIND THE TERRARIUM
Small creature.
Clear provenance.
Behavior
Pip's needs, locomotion, feeding, sleeping and play are scripted simulation. The live trial adds an engineered pollen-irritation rule for grooming. Its thresholds and timing are chosen for this pet cam; they are not validated biological measurements.
Live scenes and replays
During live sessions, Pip's state and movements update as the scene runs, and Twitch chat can add small invitations. Slow-motion and earlier-today clips are labeled as replays; their actions are not counted a second time. Pip currently streams from a Mac while its session is running. These first sessions are short, supervised trials; unattended 24/7 operation is still to be tested. The on-screen DEMO TIME label identifies a previewed time of day.
The preserved research mode
The original project also includes a rate model using the Janelia MaleCNS v1.0 connectome. That optional mode is separate from the heuristic. A connectome contains anatomical connections; using it does not by itself validate a behavioral prediction.
Connectome: Berg S et al., Sexual dimorphism in the complete connectome of the Drosophila male central nervous system (2026), preprint doi:10.1101/2025.10.09.680999. CC BY 4.0.
Body and rendering
Fly meshes: FlyGym 2.1.0, NeuroMechFly simplified meshes, distributed under Apache 2.0. The packaged 39 STL files were verified against that release. Rendering uses Three.js under its MIT license. Audio is generated procedurally by the application.
Viewer privacy
Commands are intended to appear on screen as “a viewer,” without names, avatars or raw chat messages. The chat reader does not post replies. Interaction logs use hashed viewer identifiers and bounded retention.
